Hidden Dangers
Hidden Dangers often overlooked by contractors are Asbestos, Silica (dusts), Mould Spores, Poisonous Chemicals and Heavy Metals like Lead, Mercury and old plaster with Horse Hair having Anthrax, renovation works exposing and contaminating persons in the vicinity including clients, workers, members of the public.
Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs)
You will hear phrases of ACM and AIBs (Asbestos Insulation Boards) and not know the true meaning of the subject, this includes Bob the Builder, although the cartoon series did explain the dangers it is not often explained to clients and tradespeople who are then exposed and contaminated and do not realize until it is too late. Unknown materials need inspected and sampled by professionals by Law. Textured Finishes and Coating like Artex and Vinyl Floor Tiles contain asbestos fibres.


Old Lath (Timber) and Plaster
Timber Laths normally Axe Split Green Timbers nailed to frames and set apart to form a gap for plaster to key was normal practice in the 18th century and through time a binding strengthening agent added either Horse hair of Asbestos Fibres for support, endurance and resistance, later finding out the horse had anthrax. The anthrax lived in horsehair for over 100 years locked in lime plaster, contaminating anyone who disturbed it.
These have serious long tern respiratory effects on occupants and cause of dampness needs investigated, remedied and areas of walls, ceilings, floors treated with fungal washes.
Spore inhalations similar to asthma and flue like symptoms often associated with climate dampness (winter) or Summer Hay Fevers and often misdiagnosed leaving occupants receiving the wrong medication and symptoms progressing.

Lead Water Pipe Mains, Lead Based Paints
Lead Water Mains allowing Lead particles into Dinking Water known as Wholesome or Potable Water for Scottish people to drink straight from the tap, unfiltered for heavy metals.
Scottish Water replaced lead mains to Property Boundaries and left the lead main from kerbside to kitchen sink as was private property, local authority or private landlord who benefited from a 1970's - 1980's Government Grant Scheme to fund Lead Pipe Replacement Works and now we learn unscrupulous organisations, companies and individuals claimed the grant money and did not replace the Lead Water Pipes leaving users at risk.
